** New York Doula has moved to Baltimore. We are only taking clients in the Baltimore/DC Area.

What is a Doula?

Historically, women have assisted women in the birth process.

A doula is an experienced labor companion that offers emotional, physical and psychological support to a laboring mother. She offers emotional support by using the prenatal visits to help work through any fears or past trauma the mother may be anxious about. She provides physical comfort through massage, rebozo techniques, heat/cold compresses and hydrotherapy. She provides psychological support by creating an environment that is judgmental and stress free. She is there to advocate on the mother’s behalf and ensure her birth experience is as close to her birth plan as possible.

Studies confirm that a doula’s presence decrease labor pain, labor length and generally results in a happier healthier baby and mother.
